well dont worry..because here we break it down in easy to understand terms, so here goes. Anime genres, Shōnen What is shonen anime? It is anime/manga that is aimed at boys examples of this include “fighting” animes like Dragonball Z, Naruto and Rurouni Kenshin where powerful warriors fight using various fighting styles and super-human powers. Then there are also other types such as romantic comedy’s known as “harem” anime where the main male character is usually is surrounded by a large amount of attractive females who are all vying for his attention. Another type that falls into this category is the sports anime such as initial D. Kodomo What is Kodomo anime? Kodomo or Kodomomuke anime literally means animation directed towards children. It refers to a genre of Japanese cartoons (anime) that are aimed at a younger audience. However, for many non-Japanese fans of these media, the name is cut to simply Kodomo. Kodomo works are noted for stories that are usually (and covertly) very moralistic and teach children how to behave as good and considerate people. The episodes are also standalone and non-episodic in order to appeal to a child's short attention span. Shojo What is Shojo anime? Shōjo, Shojo, or Shoujo refers to anime marketed to a female audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18, Shōjo covers many subjects from historical drama to science fiction often with a strong focus on human and romantic relationships and emotions Seinen What is Seinen anime? Seinen is a subset of anime that is generally targeted at adult men and can range from avant – garde to the sexually explicit. Josei What is Josei anime? Josei is a subset of anime that is generally targeted at adult women The style also tends to be a more restrained, realistic version of shōjo. The key is to read up on new anime before you buy and you'll have a much better chance of finding anime that's just right for you.
